Seventh avenue

The fashion marketplace in New York City that encompasses the area from 30th to 42nd Streets and from 6th to 9th Avenues is generally referred to as Seventh Avenue. While once a thriving "garment center" for both design and manufacturing beginning in the mid-1800s, it has since changed due to the shift to offshore production of textiles and garment manufacturing. Today, Seventh Avenue is spoken of more in terms of a place where buyers visit showrooms of fashion houses both big and small. Some small factories and trimmings houses still exist but only to serve the few remaining design rooms.
